Enduring Mysteries: Sea Monsters

One of six books I wrote as part of Creative Company’s Enduring Mysteries nonfiction series aimed at sixth-grade readers. The Enduring Mysteries books look at the paranormal, spooky, and strange—I absolutely loved tales of Bigfoot and UFOs when I was a kid, and I tried to cover each of these topics with a skeptical but sympathetic eye, keeping it grounded with real facts and science but not losing sight of the wonder and mystery that makes them so compelling in the first place. Published in January 2025.

From Creative Company’s description: History’s most enduring mysteries and legends involve tales so incredible that they blur the line between fact and fantasy. This nonfiction series for age 12 and up examines current evidence surrounding Bigfoot, alien activity, and other mythical creatures and sites, as well as related conspiracy theories, cover-ups, hoaxes, and famous sleuths. The truth is out there—uncover it!

Since ancient times, fishermen have spun tales of giant sea monsters, tentacled beasts that capsized ships and drowned countless sailors. Most of these mythical creatures are now known to have been based on real animals, such as giant squid and octopuses. Some were hoaxes. But what about the others? Marine scientists seek the truth by exploring the ocean depths, while pop culture spins more fantasies. For readers age 12 and up, this title investigates the phenomena surrounding sea monsters, from historical accounts and popular myths to hard facts and evidence. Includes a glossary, index, sidebars, and further resources.
